Tour is from
10.-16. April 2018
Join Sami herders and experience the spring migration of Finnmark's reindeers as they leave the snowy inland landscape and head towards the cooler northern coast for the spring and summer. Experience 24 hours of daylight and marvel at vast Arctic scenery including frozen lakes, mountains and plateaus before finally reaching the reindeers' home for the spring - snow covered valleys and mossy landscapes. Gain an insight into the Sami way of life and live like a reindeer herder on this unique small group adventure.
Good physical fitness is required due to the nature of this tour - where living, herding reindeer and sleeping like a Sami in tents in the Arctic wilderness are the highlights.
The tour will start from Alta and already here we have a short infomeeting. We drive to inland (about 2 hours) where snowmobiles and reindeers with equipment on sleds are ready for us. There we provide you with suitable outerwear for the trip. When all personal equipment is packed we start the reindeersledding and snowmobiling expedition to meet the Sámi reindeerherders. We will set up lavvos (Sámi tent) and make some traditional Sámi food. Our accommodation for the next 5 days will be in lavvos with sleeping bags on reindeerskins.
On this expedition you will drive both snowmobiles and reindeersleds. The group members will alternate between these transportation forms on a daily basis, so you get to experience both. Snowmobile is what reindeerherders are using nowadays and reindeersledding is what reindeerherders have used in oldertimes when they were traveling.
You will be with Sámi reindeerherders 4 nights in the tent before you go back to Alta.
Group size is maximum 8 persons on this trip.
